Welcome to Community Alcohol Partnerships

North Edinburgh CAP Launch 27th June 2019

The launch of the North Edinburgh CAP took place at the Spartans FC ground on June 27 with partners including Edinburgh Council, Trading Standards, Police Licensing, local schools, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Scotmid, Morrisons and Lidl.

The CAP will work to tackle underage drinking and anti-social behaviour in the Forth and Inverleith wards of the city by reducing the sale of alcohol to young people, advising them on the dangers of drinking and providing alcohol-free activities. The CAP is the fourth to be launched in Edinburgh and builds on successful partnerships already underway in North East Edinburgh, North West Edinburgh and South West Edinburgh.

CAPs bring together local authorities, police, schools, retailers, neighbourhood groups and health providers, working together to help communities tackle alcohol-related harm to young people and improve the quality of life for residents.

CAPs have now been launched in 175 communities across the UK, where they have had considerable success tackling underage drinking and anti-social behavior.

CAP Adviser for England (East) and Scotland, Alan Simpson said: “Drinking alcohol at a young age brings serious risks to children’s health and development and puts them in danger of both physical and social harm. They are far more likely to injure themselves or someone else, fail to reach their potential at school and engage in anti-social behaviour. We are committed to making a positive difference to their lives and to the local community.”

PC Sarah Hall, co-ordinator of the North Edinburgh CAP, will work with partners to implement the CAP action plan, with its first meeting scheduled for July 3.

News and Blogs

The Community Alcohol Partnership in Airedale has been really successful. They’ve helped to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area by 20% this year and done a great job of engaging students too. I was completely blown away by the talent and commitment of the students. They were great at getting the consequences of anti-social behaviour across.
